Chin Mee Chin has been around for more than a decade, and its humble interior instantly transports you back to the early 2000’s. A small old-school bakery situated in Katong Shopping Centre, Dona Manis’ banana pie has been frequently named as the best banana pastry in Singapore. Everything in Dona Manis, from preparing the dough to delivering bakes, is handled by an old couple, Madam Soh Tho Lang and Mr Tan Keng Eng. LE Cafe Confectionery & Pastry is one of Singapore’s oldest bakeries, with a history of more than 50 years. They sell a wide variety of cakes, including cakes for weddings, babies’ rst months, as well as Chinese desserts and even homemade cookies! With 20 staff churning out more than 200 loaves of bread a day, this traditional bakery has been running for 35 years. Sing Hon Loong Bakery’s signature bake is the crustless Nanyang-style white loaf, but they also sell other products including french loaves, raisin bread, cream buns and sugar twists. You don’t have to doubt the quality of their bakes, as Sing Hon Loong Bakery supplies loaves to popular F&B businesses Fun Toast and Killiney Kopitiam! They even used to supply to Ya Kun, but eventually halted the partnership as they could not keep up with the demand. That should give you an idea of how good their bakes are!

5. Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery

Lek Lim Nonya Cake Confectionery is situated in an unassuming corner of Bedok North, where most people would probably walk past without even noticing. The shop which started back in 1967 specialises in kueh such as their signature Jiu Ceng Gao (nine-layered cake) and Ang Ku Kueh (red tortoise cake). Their delicious kueh are priced at an affordable price of only about 70 cents per piece, making it value for money! Furthermore, they are also halal- certied!

6. Gin Thye Cake Maker

This Teochew bakery sells traditional pastries, and even wedding cakes! Although most of the young crowd would probably prefer luxurious multi-tiered wedding cakes, this bakery still insists on selling their nostalgic old-school wedding cakes for the more traditional crowd. Prices of Gin Thye’s wedding cakes range from $9 for a heart shaped marble cake, walnut cake and butter cake to $12 for a sponge cake. The bakery also sells Guo Da Li pastries, which are betrothal gifts that the groom presents to the bride’s parents to thank them for raising her.
